Calm down Internet! Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer 'Udta Punjab' has not been banned.
In an official statement, Aman Gill, CEO, Balaji Motions Ltd., said, "To set the record straight, ' Udta Punjab' has not been banned. The examining committee has referred the decision to the Revising committee and the due process is on."
Co-producer Anurag Kashyap also took to his Twitter page to rubbish the reports that the censor board gave a no-permit for the release of the upcoming movie, which is based on substance abuse in Punjab. The 43-year-old director and producer said that the examining committee has just "deferred the decision to revising." He further wrote, "And due process takes it own time so please abstain for spreading a BAN rumour. There is nothing to speak on the subject as of now." The ' Gangs of Wasseypur' director also faintly hinted at the possibility of taking the matters to Supreme Court in case the flick is banned. He tweeted, "A film is banned only when examining, revising and FCAT all three refuse certificate. And then you fight it out in Supreme Court." After CBFC suggested 40 cuts in the film, several rumours started doing the rounds, alleging that the movie might never be released. While the movie is scheduled to release on June 17 this year, the controversy is likely to meddle with the process.
